We are not only providing you with healthy sustainable menstrual products, we are giving you an opportunity to make a difference.
Devoted to providing healthy menstrual products
We offer non-toxic natural products so you can rest assured that you’ll get what is truly nourishing for your body. We know what it is like to wonder what all of those ingredients are in your products. That’s why we have no hidden ingredients, they are all listed in the product descriptions in our shop, unlike the commercial pads and tampons.
Devoted to the health of the earth
We have designed our products for multiple years of use and our packaging from recycled materials. So you can be confident in your strive for sustainability. Commercial pads are used once but take 500-800 years to decompose. Now multiply that by the number of women using them for every day of their period!
Devoted to the empowerment of women
We are committed to empowering as many women as we can. From employing women from marginalized communities to running our Pads for Empowerment program to providing you an opportunity to connect with your cycles in an intimate way. Our devotion is fierce, so by supporting our work you are supporting the development of women around the world.
This devotion didn’t happen overnight.
In 2010, our co-founder Meghna moved into a marginalized community in India. One day, a teenage girl came into her room and found her menstrual cup, with a confused look on the girl’s face, she asked what it was used for. This started a series of discussions on menstrual practices in the community and India. Over the next few years, Meghna began to see the difficulty in which her neighbors had to manage their periods. There are so many rules and taboos, it was hard to keep track of them all! They believed themselves that their period made them dirty and shameful. Meghna knew there was a more empowering way to see menstruation.
She then joined up with our co-founder Luke, who was passionate about finding fair employment and treatment for women from their marginalized community. A place that was safe and enjoyable to work and a way for them to provide for their families. Together, after a great quantity of research and planning, Shomota opened its doors for business at the end of 2014.
You can read more about Meghna and check out her new venture Divine Flow. There you will find ways to dive deeper into your womb space and find physical, emotional and spiritual healing.
We believe that there is hope for a better future. One that is rooted in health and wellbeing for all. But we believe that we can only do this work together. We are asking you to join us in the effort.
